Financial institutions in eight countries have been hit by a Word 97 macro virus that threatens to destroy data when triggered in mid December
First detected last month, the “Thursday” virus was reported by several anti-virus companies. The Word 97 macro virus infects a user’s normal.dot file, where it stays dormant until December 13. Network Associates says the “sleeper” virus then will awaken to delete all files on a user’s C drive.
