AMD has reduced prices by up to 25 percent on some of its K6-2 and K6-III processors.
In a move to turn up the heat on competitor Intel, AMD dropped prices on its 475MHz K6-2 desktop chip by 25 percent, to $114. The 450MHz K6-2 was reduced to $93, a 17 percent decrease . The 400MHz K6-2 chip saw an 11 percent cut, moving it from $82 to $73. The 400MHz K6-III was discounted by six percent, dropping it to $173.
This is AMD’s first price cut since mid-May. Pricing was unchanged for the 500MHz K6-2 and new high-performance Athlon chips.
