IBM puts Linux on laptop

IBM says its ThinkPad 600 has become the first laptop computer certified to run Red Hat Linux.

Laptops have presented a challenge to Linux integration because the specialized components in portable PCs require specific drivers for the open source operating system.

Dell announced in August that it plans to put Linux on its Inspiron line of laptops, but IBM has beat its Texas rival to the punch.
