Big chip deal No. 2: Micron signs Gateway

As a sequel to its estimated $20 billion deal with Compaq Computer, Micron Technology has announced a five-year agreement to become Gateway’s primary memory chip supplier.

The deal ensures that Gateway has a steady supply of memory going into the 1999 holiday season and beyond.

The arrangement comes as recently rising DRAM prices have begun squeezing already tight PC profits, leading some PC makers to secure long-term supply contracts.
