As the computer industry converges on gambling capital Las Vegas this week, all bets are off as to what interface will prevail as the future standard for flat panel monitors.
The Digital Visual Interface specification appeared to be reaching a consensus among LCD monitor makers, but products unveiled during the Comdex/Fall ’99 trade show indicate that DVI support has wavered.
Some of the newest products introduced at the show have retained the legacy analog VGA interface, while others have adopted one of three familiar digital interfaces. Meanwhile, a brand new digital interface – the Gigabit Video InterFace, or GVIF – is being launched at the show by Sony Electronics.
