Linux creator Linus Torvalds, an employee of one of Silicon Valley’s most secretive startups, still won’t discuss the company’s mission – but he did disclose when Transmeta Corp. will go public with details of its new processor.
In his keynote speech during the Comdex computer show, and in a subsequent interview on ZDTV Radio, Torvalds confirmed that Transmeta’s key product – to be known as the Crusoe processor – will be formally announced on Jan. 19.
The new chip appears to be aimed at mobile computing platforms, and is widely anticipated to pose a new challenge to Intel in the microprocessor market.
