Despite the threat of a coming Sony game console, Sega says its Dreamcast system sales have reached the 1 million mark in North America.
The Internet-ready, 128-bit Dreamcast first shipped to the U.S. market on Sept. 9. Sega said in a statement that its meteoric sales record now tops even the trajectories of such other retail sales phenomena as the Tickle Me Elmo doll and the Sony PlayStation.
Sega originally had forecast that the game console would not surpass 1 million units sold until after Christmas.
