Dell weighs in with lightweight WebPC

Dell has joined Compaq, Hewlett-Packard and others with the release of a new cut-down, low cost PC designed for Internet-hungry consumers.

Dell’s $1,000 “WebPC” basic model will feature a 433MHz Celeron and a 15″ monitor, packaged in a brightly colored enclosure that resembles a small drip coffee maker. A 466MHz model will sell for $1,099, or $1949 coupled with a flat-panel screen.

A report is online at www.theregister.co.uk.
