Gates: Taking aim at consumer electronics

Microsoft wants to increase the level of communication in our lives – in particular, the communication between our TVs, cars, and home appliances.

In a keynote speech at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Microsoft chairman Bill Gates emphasized the company’s home-centric strategy of tying in the telephone, television, automobile, and other home appliances.

On the CES show floor, Microsoft displayed a model home sporting a WebTV in the living room, a Web Companion for the kitchen, a car-mounted AutoPC in the garage, and more. All were equipped with MSN access.
