Gateway to offer AMD-powered PCs again

PC maker Gateway is renewing its relationship with Advanced Micro Devices, announcing plans to resurrect its Select line of computers with new models offering AMD’s Athlon processor.

The announcement comes just a few days after Gateway publicly criticized AMD rival Intel over a shortage of high-performance Pentium III chips, which it says hurt its ability to sell high-performance PCs.

Late last year, Gateway pulled the plug on the Select PC line, then announced it would no longer offer K6-2 chips in its Profile all-in-one PC, displaced last November with the Intel Celeron based Profile 2.
