AMD has hired a law firm to pursue people who modify and then resell Athlon microprocessors, according to a report posted by overclocking hardware site Hard OCP.
Representing AMD, the law firm of Pattishall, McAuliffe, Newbury, Hilliard & Geraldson appears to have taken the first legal steps against an overclocker.
The action targets the company Computer Nerd, which says it has received notice that it is breaching AMD’s patents by selling overclocked “Nerdlon” units.
AMD’s lawyers have issued Computernerd with a “cease and desist” notice, threatening legal action against the company.
