TI revs up wireless processing power

Texas Instruments has introduced two new chips that should vastly improve the performance of mobile phones and other wireless devices.

One of the new digital-signal processors (DSPs) is said to be ten times faster than current DSPs, and would allow mobile phones to retrieve video from the Internet.

The other is a low-power processor that will use one-sixth the power of current DSPs and would dramatically extend the life of wireless, battery operated devices.
