Sega and Swiss watchmaker Swatch Group AG announced plans for a new type of wristwatch offering a range of Internet services.
The device would use Sega’s Dreamcast home video game console – equipped with a built-in modem – and a Swatch watch with wireless communications features. Users would download information from the Web and transfer it to a memory chip on the watch.
While the data cannot be viewed on the watch itself, it could be uploaded onto another Dreamcast machine or in places like movie theaters equipped with special adapters.
The device should be available by May for $130 to $180.
