Lucent readies new wireless technology

Lucent Technologies next month will introduce a family of high-speed wireless networking hardware.

Dubbed “Orinoco,” the new wireless PC cards have built-in radio transmitters and receivers, allowing consumers and small businesses to connect their PCs, printers and other peripherals while sharing a single Internet connection.

Lucent joins a growing list of competitors in the wireless field that includes Nortel Networks, Cabletron Systems, 3Com, Cisco Systems and Dell Computer, which also announced plans to sell its own wireless technology in its notebook computers.
