FireWire spec developed for printers

A newly-developed FireWire specification will allow direct connections between imaging devices and printers – without the need for a PC.

The specification, IEEE 1394.3, was created by the Printer Working Group, a program of the 1394 Trade Association.

FireWire, or 1394, is an interface that allows direct connection between consumer electronics and computer equipment.

While a few 1394-compliant printers are already available, a number of manufacturers are expected to begin volume production by the second half of the year.
