Microsoft patches Windows security hole

Microsoft has released a patch for a security hole in its Windows 95 and 98 operating systems that can cause users’ machines to crash.

The problem is most likely to occur when a user clicks on a link contained in a Web site or Web-based email message that includes a command to process the name of a DOS device as either a file or folder name, forcing the system to perform an illegal resource access.

Microsoft’s security bulletin and patch are available at www.microsoft.com/security.
