IBM: New memory will speed up the Net

IBM announced a new generation of memory chips that deliver twice the data to a microprocessor as those currently on the market.

Company officials said the new memory chips, called ‘double data rate’ (DDR) modules, are aimed at improving the performance of servers, allowing for a faster flow of data on the Internet.

IBM’s NUMA-Q and Netfinity servers will be the first systems available with the new memory, but eventually all IBM servers will use the new chips, company officials said.
