Microsoft probes Windows 2001 leak

Microsoft is investigating reports that a pirated version of one of the latest builds of its next full-fledged version of Windows has been posted illegally to a number of college and Internet sites.

ActiveWin and BetaNews report that the software, code-named Whistler, looks almost identical to Windows 2000 professional.

Based on the Windows NT kernel, rather than the Windows 9X kernel, Whistler is tentatively slated to ship in March 2001, according to internal Microsoft documents.

The story is available at www.zdnn.com.
