Warning prompts Microsoft settlement offer

A warning from the judge in the Microsoft antitrust case that he was ready to rule prompted a new settlement offer from the company.

However, sources familiar with the case said that so far, no new talks have been scheduled.

U.S. District Court Judge Thomas Penfield Jackson, who last November declared Microsoft a monopoly, reportedly said that unless he heard from either the mediator or jointly from both sides, he would issue his decision in the case next Tuesday.
