New worm viruses reported

A software vendor has issued warnings about two new worm viruses spreading rapidly on the Internet.

F-Secure of San Jose, Calif. said the Irok and Kak worms are similar to the infamous Melissa virus and circulate via users of the Microsoft Outlook e-mail program.

Irok propagates through a file attachment called IROK.EXE, while the Kak worm, written in Javascript, arrives within an e-mail message with the subject line “I thought you might like to see this.”

Users can stop the virus by disabling “Active Scripting” in the preferences file.
