Sony offers fix for PS2 DVD glitch

Sony will distribute a new utility disk to repair a glitch in its PlayStation2.

The company confirmed that users could change the regional codes in the game console’s software to view DVDs sold overseas – a violation of an agreement among DVD player makers that machines only be allowed to play domestically sold disks equipped with disenabling codes.

To fix the problem, Sony said it would deliver an upgraded utility software disk for free, in exchange for the old disk that came with the 1.25 million PlayStation2s that shipped before March 25.
