Microsoft vows to appeal verdict

Microsoft vowed to appeal a ruling that it violated U.S. antitrust law, with Chairman Bill Gates expressing confidence that his company would ultimately prevail in the case.

“This ruling turns on its head the reality that consumers know: our software has helped make PCs more accessible and affordable to millions,” Gates said.

In a 43-page decision, Judge Thomas Penfield Jackson on Monday found that Microsoft abused its monopoly in personal computer operating systems to harm rivals and consumers.
