IBM unveils record-breaking hard drive

IBM has introduced a high-capacity notebook hard drive featuring greater areal density than any drive on the market.

The new 32GB Travelstar can hold 17 billion bits per square inch, beating the 14.3 billion bits per square inch record held by another IBM drive.

The company says the new 5,400 RPM drive – also available in 20GB and 6GB, starting next month – will provide notebooks with smoother video and clearer audio.
