Napster removes alleged pirates

Online music site Napster.com, whose technology allows users to swap digital music files, announced it has removed more than 300,000 users accused of violating copyrights off its Web site.

The action was taken in response to a request from the band Metallica, which earlier this month presented the San Mateo, Calif.-based firm with a list of users it claimed violated the band’s copyrights. The list included usernames, filenames of allegedly infringed music for each user, time, date, and the IP address of the Napster server to which the user was connected.
