As the U.S. Department of Justice moves to punish Microsoft and the company smarts from the bombing of its South African offices, the BBC reported that Microsoft has been talking to Canadian authorities about moving the company Northward. A whirlwind of media activity quickly ensued and both Microsoft and officials in British Columbia denied that talks were going on, though the Canadians made it clear they would welcome the company if they did choose to flee U.S. jurisdiction. Insiders wonder if a leak to the BBC was not orchestrated to send a message.
