Embarrassed by the spate of recent opportunistic viruses propagated through its Outlook vector, Microsoft is issuing a patch meant to stop the digital epidemic. Once the Outlook E-mail Security Update is installed, administrators will be able to disable certain types of attachments that other software companies use to work with the mail program. Microsoft says 30 companies could be affected, including Accountmate, FileNet, Novell, Palm, Pivotal, and Starfish.
