MS wins a round against DOJ

A court of appeals rejected the U.S. government’s request that authority over the antitrust case against Microsoft go directly to the Supreme Court. The government won points of its own, however, when the appeals court denied a move to treat a group of anti-MS suits as different cases.

Meanwhile, back in Redmond, the software company announced the release of Windows Millennium Edition to manufacturers and set the retail delivery date as September 14. Some analysts are saying that the desktop OS is already fading in importance as wireless applications bring new competition to the computing market.
