IBM, Microsoft, Ariba and other tech firms are cooperating on a Web standard initiative aimed at establishing an online database of e-businesses. Described as a giant Internet yellow pages, the database is to be announced officially on Wednesday. Though the project has competition from Commerce One, Oracle, SAP and others, none appear to have the clout of the participants in this effort. One analyst believes the endeavor represents “the maturation of the business Internet.”
