S3, Via offer chip set supporting AMD processors

S3 Inc. and Via Technologies Inc. will sell a core logic chip set supporting AMD’s Athlon and Duron microprocessors aimed at the low-priced PC market. The ProSavage KM133 chip set joins Via’s Apollo KT133 chip set functions and S3’s Savage4 3-D and Savage2000 2-D graphics engines. Advanced Micro Devices has expressed enthusiasm for the shared memory architecture chip set as well as confidence that it will increase Athlon and Duron sales. In volume, the chip set will sell for $40 each.
