Chip set mixes analog voice with DSL

The Canadian Catena Networks Inc., is building a chip-set that can handle both DSL services and analog voice. Next year, the product will enable, according to the Semiconductor Business News, an “access box for digital loop carriers (DLCs) that is capable of turning every local loop served by a DLC into a broadband line that handles xDSL service and analog phone service simultaneously, without a splitter.” The nature of this design accomplishment is such that early reports of the technology were not believed.
