E-signatures take effect today

The US e-signature law takes effect today, denoting an important move toward a fully integrated digital economy. Legally binding contracts can now be made online, enabling e-commerce. The event also almost certainly denotes, as well, an era of litigation and rethinking. Unfortunately, the bill does not specifically require secure cryptographic digital signatures, like those produced by Verisign or PGP that resist the counterfeiting of signatures or the changing of the contents of a signed contract.
