Samsung signs deal with Rambus

Less than a week away from its public offering, Transmeta Corp. has been blind-sided by IBM Corp.’s cancellation of its ThinkPad mini-notebook that was to use Transmeta’s Crusoe chip. Some reviewers have criticized both Crusoe’s power-saving abilities and performance, reducing the chips’s currency somewhat. Reports from other sources, however, indicate that Intel Corp. may have pressured IBM to drop its Transmeta product line. IBM gave no reason for the cancellation and has not ruled out future products using the processor.
