Transmeta Corp.’s stock showed signs of stress when Sony Corp. admitted that it would recall, for repairs, up to 13,000 Vaio laptops with Transmeta’s Crusoe chip in Japan. The fall in price began when word that less than 300 laptops with Crusoe chips would be called back for adjustments but that number has been revised upward. The actual recall number will depend on how many of the estimated 13,000 machines affected by the newly discovered bug have actually been sold.
