Golden e-money?

This week, a group centered around the NASA/Ames Research Center in Silicon Valley will kick off an effort to develop truly reliable computing. With computer scientists from Carnegie Mellon University and support from companies including IBM and Hewlett-Packard Co., the “high dependability computing consortium” will research ways of lowering the cost of creating computers with a very low incidence of failure. NASA has seen two Mars missions ruined by software problems and is grappling with ways to protect both missions and lives from the consequences of computer problems in space.
