According to writers for CNet News, Advanced Micro Devices has turned to competitor Transmeta for help preparing the way for its forthcoming server chip, making the “code-morphing” experts an ally in the fight against Intel Corp. Transmeta will reportedly program the software simulator for AMD’s 64-bit Sledgehammer server chip. Though the terms of the deal have not been announced, the writers say that Transmeta will receive rights to make chips that use elements of Sledgehammer technology. The simulator will hopefully let software developers fine-tune code to run on the chip before it arrives in the first half of 2002.
