One new and somewhat surprising product to come forth at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show is the dedicated Internet radio. The machine by SmartMedia is based on Advanced Micro Devices’ Elan 133 megahertz processor and runs Microsoft Windows CE 3.0 operating system. The company will sell the box, resembling a VCR, for about $200 to people with broadband access. The price is half that for those with modem access but requires a $15 monthly fee. The company says that the appliance is designed to provide Web radio quality that is better than that delivered by PCs.
