According to Electronics Weekly, STMicroelectronics Inc. is preparing to announce its first ferroelectric RAM (FRAM) products after a two-year development deal with Belgian research group IMEC. The collaboration centered on finding ways to integrate FRAM memory into ST’s standard CMOS process.
Non-volatile FRAM’s extreme low power requirements combined with fast read and write speeds make it attractive for use in mobile System-On-Chips technologies. According to ST, FRAM would be perfect for contactless smartcards.
