One of the team that announced successful hacks of the Secure Digital Music Initiative (SDMI) watermark tests says he has decided to repress details for fear of violating the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. Under the DMCA, those who publish information used to break a copy-protection scheme can be prosecuted. Princeton University Professor Edward Felten and the rest of his team refrained initially from formally challenging the SDMI scheme because the terms for entering the contest required that participants not publish their solutions.
