Advanced Micro Devices and Intel Corp. chips will both fit into the new Sun Microsystems Cobalt net servers, according to spec sheets obtained by EBN. This is, apparently, the first Intel penetration of Sun Microsystem’s big server and workstation product line. Older Cobalt servers have used the AMD K6-II but AMD’s lack of a multiprocessor technology has hurt it in the server market. The company has, however, announced it is presently sampling a 760-MP two-way chipset supporting dual Athlon MPUs.
