Days after Microsoft Corp. paid Sun Microsystems $20 million to end the lawsuit based on its apparently illegal altering of Java to work only on Windows, the Redmond company has revealed its end-run around the settlement. Microsoft’s Java User Migration Path (JUMP) will use independently developed programs that allow developers to convert Java programs to Microsoft’s C#, which works with the company’s new .NET technology. A Sun spokesman called the announcement “vapor” and said he did not believe his company to take the matter to court, as many analysts expect.
