Cornell University's Advanced Computing Research Center Announces Grant and Partnership to Develop M

The Cornell Theory Center in Ithaca, New York, Cornell University’s research center for advanced computing, has received a $60 million grant for supercomputer development. As part of this development, Cornell will use technology and resources of Intel Corporation, Microsoft Corporation, and Dell Computer Corporation. The Cornell Theory Center has already developed a supercomputing system with off-the-shelf components that are “clustered” to partition and share the workload required for complex computations. This grant and industry partnership will double the size of Cornell Theory Center’s existing supercomputing “cluster” system, and should generate huge cost savings for university researchers and businesses that have a need for advanced clustered computing.
