Sony has developed a copyright protection technology called OpenMG X. According to AsiaBizTech:
OpenMG X will prevent unauthorized duplication of music files and motion picture files that are distributed via the Internet, and also enable content distributors to set hours and the number of times for replaying such files. OpenMG X consists of software components on both the server and client sides. By using them, users can develop software products for a content management/distribution system and for replaying.
Pretty soon, they’ll be selling you digital content that restricts when you play something, on what device, and for how long. How nice, and enjoyable this is all getting to be.
