Gateway has announced that it will release three new models of its new Profile 4 System this month. The Profile 4 sports a compact all-in-one system with a flat panel LCD monitor. The three models will range in price from $999. to $1,999. US. The Profile 4 is expected to compete against Apple’s flat-panel iMac. The Profile 4 system will feature a configurable system, with choices for the processor, hard drive and several other components. The top of the line Profile 4 is Gateway’s Profile 4XL (2.66GHz Pentium 4 processor, 17″ flat-panel monitor, 512MB DDR SDRAM, 120GB hard drive, CD-RW/DVD combo drive, USB 2.0, Windows XP Home edition) that will retail for $1,999 US. US (1.7GHz Celeron processor, 15″ flat panel monitor, 128MB RAM, 40GB hard drive, CD-ROM drive, Windows XP Home edition).
Critics have already noted that an important feature missing from the Profile 4 series is a DVD recording drive, and Gateway will not offer this feature as an upgrade due to space limitations in the compact Profile 4 design. The three Profile 4 System models have a planned release date of August 26th, coinciding with Intel’s scheduled launch date of its 2.8GHz Pentium 4 processor.
