HP Takes EMC to Court for Patent Infringement

Hewlett-Packard Company has filed an action in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California seeking an injunction and monetary damages against EMC Corporation. HP, a computer and printer manufacturer, alleges that EMC, a data storage technology company, has infringed seven of HP’s patents with EMC’s data storage products, TimeFinder, Symmetrix and Clariion. The HP infringement claim involves EMC’s technology that moves data and resolves data storage problems. EMC previously filed an action against Hitachi Corporation, one of its competitors, and against Storage Apps, which is now owned by HP. HP is EMC’s other major competitor in the network storage technology field.
