Lotus Software, prior to being acquired by I.B.M. in 1995, produced many of the software programs that are still used worldwide in businesses today. Lotus products enable users to work together and communicate more effectively via its widely-used email and instant messaging, meeting planning software and document sharing programs. Lotus is set to announce its first major product upgrades which will align its products more closely with I.B.M. These upgrades will make it possible to link Lotus’ software with the I.B.M’s platform for e-commerce (Websphere), as well as its Tivoli systems management software, and DB2 database.
