JJ Abrams: Jar Jar Must Die

Before directing Episode One, George Lucas had been away from filmmaking for a long time, and the character of Jar Jar Binks was proof while he hit the zeitgeist with Star Wars in 1977, he was now completely out of touch from what audiences liked in modern day times.

Jar Jar became the symbol of the Star Wars franchise jumping the shark, and the fan revolt against the character was so strong, you never had to fear about him returning, although JJ Abrams thought of having a funny reference to him in The Force Awakens.

As the Guardian reports, Abrams was considering leaving a Jar Jar easter egg in the film, saying, “I have a thought about putting Jar Jar Binks’s bones in the desert there. Only three people will notice, but they’ll love it.”

Actually, we think something like that would be an on-target geek joke that would get a big round of applause from the audience, but again, we don’t think we’ll ever have to worry about Jar Jar coming back from the grave, the geek revolt would just be way too great if anyone tried to attempt bringing him back round again.
