Will JJ Abrams Stay in the Star Wars Universe?

In case you’ve been living in a cave, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, directed by JJ Abrams, is coming on December 18. You would think he’d be aboard for the rest of the series, but the second one following Awakens, Episode VIII, will be directed by Rian Johnson (Looper).

Now there’s speculation that JJ Abrams could come back for the last one of the new trilogy, Star Wars Episode IX, which would be hitting theaters in 2019. This bit of speculation comes from Cinema Blend and Latino Review, which reports a lot of Star Wars rumors.

According to IGN’s report of this rumor, Disney would like Abrams to come back, and as we always say, this is just a rumor right now. If it happens, it’s going to be near the end of the decade, and who knows what can happen between now and then.

With the new Star Wars films, it looks like they’re trying to repeat what went right with the original series, including trying different directors for each movie, and having Lawrence Kasdan work on the script for Awakens. But if Abrams delivers with Awakens, why not have him back
