Transmeta, VIA take Intel Pentium M head on

The Microprocessor Forum opens in Dullsville, California today, and according to a report in today’s Wall Street Journal, little X86 firms Transmeta and Via think they’ve got a chance to knock Intel off its Pentium M notebook perch. “The newspaper quotes Glenn Henry, the Via-Centaur president, as saying that the firm’s C5P processor is far smaller than the Pentium M. And Transmeta’s David Ditzel, when he introduces the “Efficeon” chip, will say that it is 50 per cent faster than Intel’s Pentium M at the same energy consumption levels.”
